Naples Youth Corporation Celebrates First 5k/10k Run event

Naples has a strong tradition of boasting recreation in any season, and Spring is no exception. With CDC restrictions on in-person events imposed in Spring 2020, the inaugural Naples Valley 5k had to be postponed.  As the CDC restrictions seemed to loosen then tighten back up during the 2021 Spring, scheduling the Naples Valley 5k remained too difficult.

Enter Jude Rischpater, a 15 year old, cross country runner with a plan!

“We need a 10k in the Village of Naples.” Rischpater stated.

Jude had been running all year round and mapped a course for both an impressive 5k and 10k route within the Village limits.  Conversations with members of the Naples Youth Corporation sprouted and lead to the 5k/10k event, coinciding with Explore Naples NY’s “Swing into Spring”, held May 22nd -23rd.

“A 2 Day event gave runners many options to participate,” remarked Ali D’Aurizio (NYC Board Member/5k/10k Director).  D’Aurizio continued, “ the suggested routes that Jude mapped, really are fun and provide variety for many running levels.”

“I believe the routes are here to stay. They are merely a suggestion to runners that visit or live in Naples but, Naples Youth Corporation is grateful to Jude for getting involved with his community and our not for profit.” Added board member Chris Abraham.

The 5k/10k had over 50 registered participants, with many more non-registered running for fun.  With our local businesses contributing and runners signing up, the event raised over $2500. Funds from the run will go to develop the property for future youth lead events. Stay tuned for details on property progress and how you can get involved!
